Coleman Camp Stove
I’ve owned a Coleman Camp Stove for several years now, and its never let me down. Of course, being a well known brand name you are going to pay a premium, but I have learned over the last few years that paying that extra price is almost always worth it. You do pay a percentage for the brand name, but a large amount of the extra money you pay goes into the quality of the product. I have gone through several cheaper gas burners, only to find that they block up, bend or break, or simply don’t heat things up properly. A good Portable Butane Stove is well worth the money.

When you see a Coleman Camp Stove that has been around for 5 years, abused trip after trip and its still going without an issue then you know that they are a good product. The cheaper stoves wont even last a year, and that’s if you treat them kindly. Of course, a lot of the life of a stove is used up if you don’t look after it, but the Coleman ones just seem to be stronger all round. That’s not to say that they are the only good brand; there are many out there. Do your research, buy something that suits your purpose and that is within your budget and you wont ever have an issue.
However, if you just buy the cheapest item on the shelf you will pay for it in the long run. Buying 5 cheap camp stoves over 5 years is going to cost you more than one good Coleman Camp Stove. On top of this, if your cheap one does break when you are in a remote location what can you do? Its difficult to cook all of your food on a fire, and many places don’t permit them anyway! Camping is a lot of fun, but the moment that something as important as a camp stove breaks you are in some serious trouble. A Portable Cooker is not something that you want to save money on, if it means a compromise in quality.
I always carry a spare burner with me, but its just a plate. You can buy a gas burner plate which simply screws into a gas bottle, and you can turn the gas on through the bottle. This is a good backup in case something does go wrong, but its not the best set up for cooking your meals! For starters they don’t have any wind protection, and you have to balance what you are cooking on top of the bottle. I have to say that I highly recommend the Coleman Camp Stove though; mines still going after several years of abuse.
