A disaster can strike in seconds sometimes with no warning what so ever and leave whole communities without power, running water or even shelter. You must be prepared to survive. The best way to prepare yourself is to have the necessary equipment and supplies to ensure you and your family are provided with the necessities of life.

Survival equipment is really a form of life insurance. You never know when a disaster will strike and you need to be prepared before not after such an event. You should also try to ensure your neighbors; family and friends are prepared with their own survival gear otherwise be prepared to share yours. If others won't take their survival needs seriously then buy them kits for Christmas, birthdays and even wedding presents.

Your survival kit should contain at the very least matches, fish hooks, fishing line, a string saw, a small knife, bouillon cube type

dehydrated soup stock, sugar, salt, antibiotics, antiseptics, aspirin, bandages, aluminum foil, a magnetic compass, a small mirror, a magnifying glass, and antihistamine. In a larger kit, you will need food and fresh water to survive at least for two weeks. Avoid foods that have to be cooked unless you have a portable cooker or barbecue.

In the case of floods or earthquakes your home may be destroyed or unsafe to live in so you will need shelter and warmth. Waterproof backpacking tarps can be tied to trees with rope and used as a shelter. For clothing, remember that wool insulates when wet and comfortable waterproof footwear is worth its weight in gold.

You need to know how to use your survival equipment, experience in the use of emergency survival gear will help you to choose what to include in your emergency survival gear kit. You should know some first aid basics and have a copy of a first aid manual.

As well as knowing how to use your survival gear everyone in your house must know where it is. You should keep an inventory along with use by dates and replace items as they become aged or pass their use by date. Store and record the date on items to indicate when it should be replaced or buy extra food when you can and rotate items.

You need to take a survival kit everywhere you go. In your car you should have a portable kit that contains some high energy foods, Sports bars, hard candy, MREs (meals, ready to eat), tropical chocolate bars, beef jerky, and nuts all work well. Basic first aid items, a flashlight and spare batteries as well as a map of the area. A couple bottles of fresh drinking water are must have items.

In some countries it is law to have a survival kit. Even in those countries where it isn’t you still need to be prepared. A good

survival kit will only set you back a few hundred dollars and this is a cost you’ll be happy you paid if one day that disaster strikes and you kit saves the life of a loved family member.

Learning to survive doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom. In fact it can be an interesting family activity that all can participate in.

Even very young members of the family need to be survival aware because if anything happens to their caregivers they may be left to fend for themselves. Don’t leave it till its too late get prepared to survive now.

When you spend more time in your lorry than you do at home, it's only natural to want to make it into a comfortable living environment. But did you know that some of our country's lorry drivers have installed stylish portable fridges and cookers and even Christmas trees to make their lorries more lovable?

In the US, truck accessories and truck beautification are a major commercial industry, so much so that in February last year a trucking version of the popular MTV show 'Pimp My Ride' was launched on cable channel CMT called 'Trick My Truck'.

In the show, the Trick My Truck team surprise a deserving truck driver and transform their run-down truck. They aim to remodel each truck driver's vehicle by incorporating truck accessories with themes and luxuries associated with their personal lifestyle and needs. The show is so popular that it now has its own spin-off. Named 'Trick My Trucker', it gives the truck drivers themselves makeover - beauty experts shave off unsightly beards, dye their hair and help them get into shape.

In the UK, lorry drivers are now well on the road to catching up with their transatlantic friends. While they may not have as far to travel (at least not all at once), the majority of our lorry drivers are just as keen to soup up their vehicles with cutting edge devices and lorry accessories. One Birmingham lorry driver told me he has recently installed a Christmas tree with fairy lights, because 'it can get lonely out there on the road on your own'.

Meanwhile, gadgetry such as sat navs, laptops and mobiles, often linked together and with specific docks, have become commonplace. CV radios are a must, as are PDAs hooked up to flat screen monitors for easy reading. Some lorry drivers have swanky TVs with integrated DVD and Freeview and specially designed aerials fitted to their cabs. For the outside, there are a number of new must-have lorry accessories including spotlights, air horns and chrome steps.

But the most sought-after lorry accessories are the creature comforts. Fridges, microwaves, toasters and portable cookers with pots, pans and utensils are becoming more popular for fine dining on the road, as well as luxurious sheepskin seat covers and air-conditioned seats.

For that real living room feel, one learned lorry driver I spoke to has installed a set of shelves with books about the best caf%26eacute; stops, top truck stops and other essential reading matter for the modern trucker.

When our lorry drivers decide it's high time to show off their works of art, it's off to 'Truckfest'. For 25 years, thousands of visitors have attended each of the six annual Truckfest events, which take place all over the UK. Many exhibit their jaw-dropping show trucks and the event has been called 'an image booster for the road haulage industry'.

So - say goodbye to those horrible hub caps ladies, because our lorry drivers are hauling themselves into the modern age with a host of glamorous new mod cons and plush lorry accessories.

Most of us do not think of disaster or emergency plans for our homes. We think of our home as our comfort and safety zones. The fact of the matter is that not one person knows just exactly when disaster will strike. The best thing one could possibly due is make himself prepare for anything that could happen. The following are some of the emergency plans for homes

1.First aid kit ready - Having a first aid kit is always useful to treat wounds. The individual should check that it is complete at all times because no one can tell when this will be needed.

2.Water supply - Water is life, life is water. As much as possible, try to keep a water supply of a gallon for every person each day and one that would be enough to go on for up to three to seven days.Water should be kept in containers made of plastic. Also, make sure that you also have filters and tablets for the purposes of purification ready and available when needed.

3.Food - Food that is not as easily perishable should be stored for you and your family, and such foods must be enough to last you, your family, as well as your pets, for three days up until one week. Examples of such foods are canned goods, powdered juices, boxed vegetables and food.

4.Portable cooker - It is always a wise idea to have a portable cooker that could serve as an alternative besides the usual electric stove you may be used to. Having a ready barbecue stove or a propane stove on hand is the best recourse if in case the electricity goes out or if gas becomes no longer available. However, if you are to utilize propane, ensure that the tank is completely full and that an extra propane tank is also available.

5.Collect clothes - Have a ready and available stock of clothes for your kids and yourself as well as sleeping bags.

6.Collect wood - Having a steady supply of good wood is also a good idea as these could be used for those fireplaces or for stoves that use wood for burning.

7.Light - A flashlight is the item that you simply could not do without especially during emergencies. Try to consider using recharging through solar means as well as units that are cranked by hand. This is in order to avoid any future worries on batteries.

8.Medical prescriptions - As much as possible, try to keep any prescriptions that you or your family member may have filled. Also, try to maintain an added supply of medication both non-prescription and prescribed ones. Contact your healthcare provider for any refill prescriptions in advance.

9.Have cash and some gas - Credit is good unless there is an emergency. Try to keep ready cash just in case the ATM fail or the system of your bank is not working. Also, it is best if you keep the gas tank of your car half full. This is so to avoid the long lines in gas stations.

10.Books and games - During emergencies, it could be safe to have some books and some board games available to entertain yourself during power failure.

11.Know thy neighbor - It is also better if you acquaint yourself with the neighbors you have in your area. There could be instances where you need each other's help if ever the basic services are somewhat interrupted.

All in all, preparation is always the best cure against any unexpected circumstance that an emergency might bring.

It is understood that the fifth installment of the implementation of energy efficiency labeling of products, including the four, in particular: with heating elements for the heating source, working at atmospheric pressure is less than 2000W rated power of automatic rice cookers; single-phase rated voltage less than 250V, the other rated voltage not exceeding 480V, AC motor driven by a desk fan, stand fan, wall fan, terrace fan, stand fan and ceiling fans; rated frequency 50Hz, rated voltage of 380V (400V), rated Current 6A ~ 630A direct acting, three-pole electromechanical control circuit input

Power supply

For the exchange of the whole AC contactor; GB19153 efficient version of the current provisions of the motor-driven micro-reciprocating piston air compressors, Oil-free reciprocating air compressors, general use of the reciprocating piston air compressors, portable reciprocating Direct piston air compressor, screw air compressor for general use, generally single-screw air compressor with fuel injection, usually with a fuel injection air compressor vane.

At the same time, since March 1, the inclusion of the first batch of home energy-efficiency labeling catalog

Refrigerator

Revised the scope of motor-driven compression only for household refrigerators (including more than 500L refrigerator), does not include embedded and transparent doors for display or other special-purpose refrigerators.

Reporter learned that, in order to strengthen

Energy

Management, promotion of energy-saving technological progress, improving the efficiency of energy efficiency, since March 1, 2005, the Chinese energy-saving potential, use of a wide range of products used to identify the energy efficiency of a unified system. To date, published an energy efficiency labeling of the product catalog of five groups, involving 19 kinds of products are: household refrigerators, room air conditioners, electric

Washing machine

, Unit air conditioners, self-ballasted fluorescent lamps, high pressure sodium lamp, small and medium three-phase asynchronous motors, chillers, domestic gas instantaneous water heater and gas heating and hot water heater, speed control-type room

Air conditioning

Devices, multi air conditioning (heat pump), a storage-type electric water heater, home induction cooker, computer monitors, photocopiers, automatic rice cookers, AC

Fan

, AC contactor, air compressors.

The inclusion of energy efficiency on the efficiency of identification catalog to implement energy-efficiency labeling imported goods entry inspection is to prevent outside access to our energy-intensive products is one important means. In 2009, Shenzhen Inspection and Quarantine Bureau has organized the identification of energy efficiency within the product identification catalog 3357 batch, the value of about 411,000,000 U.S. dollars, seized Failing to affix the energy efficiency of 24 batches of identification products, the value of 1.43 million U.S. dollars, for failure required energy efficiency labeling affixed to the products, are regulated to do the appropriate treatment.

The traditional concept of cooking involves indoor kitchens, gas or electric stoves, microwaves, toasters, and ovens. Heat is provided by burning wood, coal, or natural gas - all viable, but limited resources which can negatively impact the environment. In response to the increasingly technology-heavy nature of cooking, many people are experimenting with the idea of solar cooking. Solar cooking is an innovative, environmentally friendly method of cooking which utilizes the power of - you guessed it - the sun.

Solar cookers come in varying shapes and sizes, but all operate on the same basic principles. To begin with, solar cookers use absolutely no fuel or energy sources except for the sun. Light and heat energy from the sun are collected and concentrated to cook food. In the most basic sense, most solar cookers are extreme examples of the greenhouse effect. Here's how they work.

The most basic type of solar cooker is basically a box which lets sunlight in but doesn't let heat out. A 'box cooker' consists of an aluminum foil lined box covered by a sheet of glass. A pot or pan (preferably dark in color) containing the food is placed inside the box. When sunlight shines into the box, it reflects off the foil and is absorbed by the dark material of the pan. The air inside the box also heats up. However, since the box is sealed shut, the heat energy cannot escape, and instead builds up inside this virtual 'greenhouse,' reaching incredible levels of 225-275 degrees Fahrenheit.

Though slower than conventional ovens, solar cookers are able to cook in a very similar way.

Solar cooking is not only entertaining to try, but also efficient to use. Unlike traditional gas or electric stoves and ovens, solar cookers do not rely on limited, exhaustible forms of fuel (wood, coal, natural gas). By using the power of the sun, solar ovens obtain, for all intents and purposes, an infinite supply of fuel (albeit one which is unavailable at night or on cloudy days).

Solar cookers are also portable and simple to make. They can be assembled quickly and easily from common materials, and require no connection to gas lines or electrical wiring, making them a great option for outdoor activities and camping trips. They are also environmentally friendly, creating absolutely no byproducts or burned-up waste.

%26lt;a href='http://www.bread-bakers-assistant.com'%26gt;www.bread-bakers-assistant.com%26lt;/a%26gt;

%26lt;a href='http://www.cooking-chinese-style.com'%26gt;www.cooking-chinese-style.com%26lt;/a%26gt;

Finally, solar cooking is cheap. A single oven is reusable and does not consume any sort of fuel. For this reason, solar cookers are very common in lower-income or highly populated countries, where people can use them to sustain healthier eating habits than they would otherwise be able to afford.

Solar funnel cookers are the least expensive and easiest solar cooker to construct. Solar funnel cookers are portable, making them ideal for campers, including RV owners and backpackers. For more detail go to: www.delicious-sandwich-recipes.com.Even kids can help with the construction of solar funnel cookers. It is the ideal do-it-yourself solar project, melding both cost-efficiency and environmentally friendly energy use.

The first step in constructing a solar funnel cooker is to cut a half circle along the bottom of the cardboard sheet. This circle should have a radius that is equal to half the diameter of the container used for cooking. If a standard mason jar is used, the half circle's radius would be approximately five inches.

The half circle that was cut into the bottom of the cardboard sheet will be used to make the funnel. For more detail go to: www.july4-recipes.com.Slowly bend the two sides of the cardboard together around the half circle. A funnel shape should form. Allow the cardboard to crease as this will give guidelines for the funnel once the aluminum foil is attached.

Next, lay the cardboard sheet back down onto the floor or work surface. Using the spray adhesive or white glue (mixed with equal parts water), adhere the aluminum foil to what will be the inside of the funnel. Be sure the foil is shiny side up and no bubbles or breaks occur.

Once the aluminum foil has adhered to the cardboard, bring the funnel together again. Use the metal brads to attach the two sides together. Space the brads evenly down the edge where the two sides meet and lock into place. Glue a section of aluminum foil over the brads on the back of the cooker, shiny side down, to ensure heat retention. The funnel of the cooker is now assembled.

Spray with black paint a square of wood approximately two inches wide by four inches long and two inches deep. Place this block in the bottom of an oven bag. Set the Mason jar (with the food or water contents inside) on top of the wood, inside the bag. Blow air into the bag to inflate it. Tie the bag off at the top. This creates a greenhouse effect inside the bag.

Lastly, place the bag inside the funnel of the solar cooker. Be sure the apparatus is facing the sun. The solar funnel cooker can be placed in a cardboard box or a hole dug into the ground for stability.

Solar cooked foods will not burn, as the heat is slow and moderate. The best cooking times are when the sun is highest in the sky and the cooker is left in direct light. Cooking times for items vary and some will require water to be added.

Most vegetables can be cooked in an hour and a half, as will roast nuts. Neither of those items requires water to be added. For grains, use a mix of two parts water for every one part grain; this should be ready to serve within two hours. Meats, chicken and fish vary on cooking times due to their size and density. Generally, fish takes one to one and a half hours, while chicken and meat will cook between one and a half and three hours.

The solar funnel cooker is cost and eco-friendly. It requires very little effort to construct and is portable. There are a variety of uses for the solar funnel cooker, from cooking foods to pasteurizing water. Solar power can be harnessed in many ways, but perhaps the simplest is through solar cooking. Solar cookers make using alternative fuel sources both accessible and affordable. Solar cookers are especially beneficial to campers, including RV owners and backpackers.
